Bees for a healthy ecosystem
Beekeeping has a long tradition on our farm.
For decades, until his death in August 2021, Hans Hänni, the father, tended to his bees with great passion. On the farm, bees were kept in the classic Swiss hive or in Langstroth hives.
Learning from experience:
Like many other beekeepers, we had long noticed the rather unfavorable climatic conditions in the square boxes, the high feed requirements and also the pressure from the Varroa mites.
We had been eagerly observing the development of Andreas Heidinger's bee sphere for some time.
With the takeover of the beekeeping operation, we are now switching our beekeeping to the PRO bee sphere system.
With its round combs, this hive offers less heat loss, a higher brood temperature, lower food requirements, and likely also reduced varroa mite pressure. Furthermore, the bee spheres are placed individually, thus distributing them throughout the entire ecosystem. This reduces disease pressure and competition, integrates better into our farmyard, and is simply a lot of fun!
We don't want to withhold from you the first pictures of the switch to the bee sphere:

Book about the bee ball
Beekeeping with the bee sphere is clearly described in this book, as are the advantages and the development of the BK-Pro.
We are delighted to have contributed a practical report on ecosystem-integrated agriculture to this book! The book is available from us for CHF 26.50 postage (first edition April 2022).
